Name: Nathanial Brownhill
About: Nathanial is the middle child of Arthur and Elizabeth Brownhill. His older brother is Reginald, by 6 years, and his younger sister is Eleanor, by 3 years. Arthur Brownhill was a chemist and pharmacist, who recently was able to open his own shop in an up-and-coming, developing city. The family had lived before in a medium-sized countryside town, where Arthur was a joint owner of a shop with his partner, Tobias Chattoway. This is where their children were born and where they remained until moving when Reginald was 21, Nathanial was 15, and Eleanor was 12. 5 or so years after the move, Tuberculosis infected the family as it had spread throughout the city.
Nathanial was the only one in his family to 'survive' and when he started coughing up blood--he desperately sought a cure. Eventually his search took him to Yharnam where he was offered a choice. Become a Hunter, and perhaps survive by finding the pale blood to cure himself, or almost certainly die as Consumption took him. He chose to be a Hunter, where he spent many many years in the Dream and the waking world. Over, and over, finding more secrets, and hints of the past and how it has affected the present.
Eventually, he unraveled the Hunters secrets, and started to understand the Blood; to make contact with the Great Ones. But it's been many years since he's been in the waking world, and a Hunter he remains.

Age: 20ish Culture: Pseudo Victorian English/American Sex: Male
Height: 5'10.75" / 179cm Build: Lean-muscle, long limbed
Skin Color: Caucasian pale Hair Color: Red-brown, more red than brown.
Eye Color: Pale golden brown Vocal cues: Light tenor with a faint accent (Curtis Rex, of Creature Feature, is a good inspiration)
Important note: Apparently, Hunters have a particular 'scent' to them. It's different than beasts, or blood, and we're never quite told what it is. But it's canon in the game that several different chars recognize by scent that the character is a Hunter. This holds true for Nathanial as well.
Clothing Style: When not in full Hunter's garb he can be found without the overcoat and mantle, light armor bracers and grieves, or covering scarf and hat. If not in Hunter's garb he's often found in dark trousers with the suspenders hanging loose, a dark burgundy waistcoat, and button up shirt. The sleeves are often rolled up to his elbows, and there is a prominent scar on his left inner forearm that remains from the transfusion.
General Demeanor: Quiet and observant, but with a dry-wit and sense of humor that can be rather dark. He's very curious though, so will introduce himself and investigate if he finds something interesting. He's used to being overlooked or relegated to the background, as the middle child.
He's used to facing and fighting (and slaying) things that drive most people insane, and not blinking. He's a stubborn survivor who refuses to give up without at least trying to fight it. He's not quick to anger just get more stubborn though and will keep a rein on his temper in favor of cutting remarks. He's also a fan of observing and listening and finding the best way to puncture arguments.
Nathanial is mannerly to most everyone and to more modern sensibilities his manners might seem old fashioned. Politeness costs nothing and often gets one farther in their endeavors. He watches people, observes and learns about them, regardless of sex or gender, to figure out how to treat someone. (Aka he will not assume a woman is automatically a delicate and fainting flower, which others from his time period might.)
He honestly does try to not judge by looks but considering his history and experience as a Hunter is with monsters, beasts, and eldritch abominations that want to kill him for the most part, he'll be on his guard and approach very cautiously if one doesn't look human or resembles an enemy he's faced before. While he might be quick to judge in this way, he will also be open to reason and learning differently. He had hoped, before Tuberculosis hit, to travel the world. Any biases and blocks he has, he's willing to learn better once he's aware of and recognizes them.
His biggest flaw is his stubbornness. Mostly because it means he doesn't like being wrong, so he'll shut down for a bit and brood. He won't necessarily argue once he's been proven wrong. But he will need time to calm down, examine everything himself, and then he'll come back and engage again--often with an apology. He's quick to judge threat-assessment of individuals and groups, but not likely to attack unless attacked first or in defense of another.

The Brownhill family, pre-game.
The Brownhill Family -- 5 living at first (3 adults, 2 kids; 2 parents, 3 children). Red-headed on both sides of the family, though the shades of red will vary from bright-red to a dull auburn. The family also tends towards tall and skinny, with long limbs for both men and women. (Bloodborne-verse equivalent celtic-bloodlines.) Stubbornness and being strong-willed run within the family to various degrees of strength.
Parents--Arthur and Elizabeth Brownhill. Married young at 25 and 21 respectively. They had 6 children though only half survived to adulthood. Were considered solidly middle-class, as Arthur was a joint-owner of a Chemist shop (Brownhill and Chattoway’s Pharmaceutical Remedies) in a medium sized country-town with his partner Tobias Chattoway. Eventually the family moved to a rapidly growing city where Arthur opened his own shop (Brownhill’s Chemist and Drugs) as sole proprietor, with his son Reginald set to inherit and actively working within the shop. Unusually for the era, both Arthur and Elizabeth were well educated, although only Arthur held a University Degree and had higher education. It was a marriage of love that fortunately worked out well as a partnership in other ways, as the two weren’t quite of the same social standing. Not as scandalous in the smaller countryside towns than it would’ve been in greater population centers. About 5 or so years after the move and opening of their own shop, the family would contract Tuberculosis as they’d helped minister to the sick and aid the suffering. The disease flourished more within the close confines and crowded state of the city. Eventually it would take all--either directly or indirectly--but Nathanial to their deaths. Very few of the city survived without any sort of ill-effects as time went on.
Birth Order-- Miscarriage, Reginald, boy (stillbirth), girl (stillbirth), Nathanial, Eleanor.
Death Order--Elizabeth (Weakened immune system from TB), Eleanor (TB), Arthur (TB), Reginald (Weakened immune system from TB), Nathanial (TB/Transfusion and contract to become a Hunter).
Arthur Brownhill --A tall man with long limbs, and his hair tending darker than the brightness of his wife and second son. He was the oldest surviving male child to his parents, and a mostly quiet man who didn’t speak much. When he did, it was often thoughtful and reflective. Decently progressive for his era, as he encouraged education and scholarship for his wife and children, and was often interested in the latest advances in the various sciences and medicine.
Elizabeth Brownhill --Tall for a woman, with bright red hair that her younger son and daughter would inherit. Elizabeth had learning and skills as an herbalist and apothecary--which is partially how she and Arthur met. Unlike her husband, Elizabeth was quite vocal and often well-spoken, with a strong sense of responsibility and fairness. The only surviving child of her own parents. LIke her husband, she was reasonably progressive for the era, especially when it came to personal hygiene and medical cleanliness. She too encouraged curiosity and a love of learning in her children, as her husband did.
Reginald Brownhill -- Oldest surviving child to Arthur and Elizabeth. Like his father he has more auburn hair than bright red. Vocal and talkative like his mother with an insatiable curiosity--especially for the sciences and technological advances new to the era. Had attained a basic degree at university and was working on his Masters in Chemistry. Somewhat absentminded to his own safety or caution when his curiosity got the better of him.
Nathanial Brownhill -- Youngest surviving son to Arthur and Elizabeth, and inherited his mother’s bright red hair. Often quiet, not unlike his father, until he has something he wishes to say. Observant, and sometimes cutting with his words as he’s used to being overlooked or being in the background. He’s not unkind however without reason, sharing his mother’s sense of fairness, and the insatiable curiosity of his elder brother. Kept a journal as he wanted to explore the mysteries of life and existence; less ‘scientifically’ minded than his father or brother. He was also more cautious in his explorations or fulfillment of his curiosity--doing the dumb things as smart and safely as he could. Prefers to have as much information as possible before making a decision--but once he makes a decision, he commits to it and doesn’t hesitate. He is open to new information changing his mind and views, but also very stubborn and strong-willed.
Because of his status as the middle child, and often being overlooked, his companion-circle was often a more ‘rogue-ish’ group without being outright criminals. Nathanial was the token ‘good boy’ of the group--and again, he wouldn’t necessarily stop someone from doing something dumb, but would encourage them to do the dumb thing smartly and safely. Due to his circle, he will be absolutely ruthless in games of chance as long as everyone plays fair and knows the rules. He does not abide cheating, nor taking advantage of another’s ignorance unfairly, when things are a game.
Eleanor Brownhill -- Youngest surviving child and only daughter to Arthur and Elizabeth. Inherited her mother’s bright red hair, and can be quiet until engaged on a topic she is passionate about. More interested in the traditional domestics and how the new advancements of the age might affect the workings thereof within the home. Had a tendency towards admiration for the upper-class, particularly their manners and modes. Despised getting dirty, but would read anything and everything she could get. Interested in the Fashion arts and advancements of the time.
